Kheesa, then 17 years old, worked at an ice cream shop called Friendly's as part of a school co-op program. Anthony, who had recently moved in with his aunt and uncle in the same town, started washing dishes at Friendly's to fulfill his family's requirement to get a job.

Their initial interactions were brief and enigmatic. Kheesa noticed that Anthony would stop talking whenever she entered the back area, which she found peculiar. It wasn't until a mutual friend, who was also Anthony's cousin, revealed that Anthony had a crush on her that things started to change. Despite Anthony's shyness, Kheesa's friend took matters into her own hands, leaving a note with Kheesa's phone number for him. That night, Anthony called, and their journey together began.

The Ups and Downs of Young Love

Their relationship was a rollercoaster of emotions and distance. Kheesa went to North Carolina A&T for college, and although they were together on and off for four years, they faced many challenges. Their relationship hit a significant hurdle when Anthony decided not to attend Kheesa's graduation. Feeling heartbroken and uncertain about their future, Kheesa ended the relationship.

Shortly after, Kheesa met her daughter's father in Greensboro, got married, and eventually divorced. Fate had a different plan for her and Anthony. During a visit to New Jersey, she bumped into him, and he confessed that she was the one who got away. Despite the initial reluctance, they decided to give their love another chance.

A Love Rekindled

For the next four years, Kheesa and Anthony maintained a long-distance relationship, flying back and forth between New Jersey and Greensboro. They made the most of flight specials and spent as much time together as possible. Their love deepened, and it became clear that they were meant to be together.

One day, while attending church, a sermon about living righteously resonated with Anthony. Inspired, he and Kheesa had a candid conversation about their future. Kheesa, using a football analogy, asked Anthony when she would get to her "Super Bowl"—when they would get married. To her surprise, Anthony suggested they get married the next day.

A Whirlwind Wedding

The next day was Memorial Day, and everything was closed. Determined, they went to the justice of the peace the following day but found out the officiant was on vacation. Not to be deterred, Kheesa called her father, a minister in Concord, who agreed to marry them that day. They quickly gathered their loved ones, including Kheesa's daughter, who was initially upset about missing recess but soon overjoyed to be part of the special day.

They drove to Concord, and Kheesa and Anthony got married in a church across the street from her father's house. They celebrated with Kentucky Fried Chicken and cherished the intimate, spontaneous nature of their wedding.

Ten Years of Love and Counting

Anthony and Kheesa's marriage has been a testament to their resilience and unwavering love. Despite Kheesa's battle with scleroderma, Anthony has been her rock, supporting her through every challenge. Their story is a beautiful example of enduring love and the power of second chances.

They were married on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014. As they celebrate their tenth anniversary, their bond is stronger than ever.
